The Walk: Day 6
Essentially human – goals or process
Thinking: goal driven or enjoying the journey?
Doing: walking the Portuguese coastal route to Santiago de Compostela
We noticed many different approaches to walking the Camino. Some very focused on the end goal and the quickest route, and others taking a more leisurely approach, enjoying the journey itself and the opportunity for interesting distractions along the way. I think we were somewhere in between. There were groups walking together with a guide, other groups splitting up to walk alone and meet up again later, small groups like us staying together and some walking alone, joining others for a chat along the way. As we got closer to Santiago de Compostela there were more people on the route. All heading for the same destination.
For knowledge-weave, our new business venture, we have been thinking about our ‘vision’, where we want to get to and how we will get there (our mission). Identifying what we will do individually and as a team every day to make our vision reality - and how we will know we’ve got there. But it also has to be in the hearts and minds of all the team. Like everyone walking around us, we all need to have our sights on what we want to achieve – a shared focus. There may be surprises and unexpected outcomes along the way that keep us curious and motivated, give us greater insight and shape our mental models (how we see things) and what we do, as we journey towards our vision.
Towards the end of today’s walk, we got a little lost as we tried to follow instructions on the app. We were all tired and had thought we were closer than we were to the hotel. We had to dig deep and keep going – we all knew where we had to get to. There was no friction, no disagreements despite the tiredness – team work and kindness got us there.
I’ve included a picture of our hotel today – it was such a welcome sight! Final day tomorrow..
