The Walk: Day 4

Essentially human – and there’s always laundry

Thinking: there is no escaping the practical things in life - like laundry –even for pilgrims

Doing: walking the Portuguese coastal route to Santiago de Compostela

Along the route there were many original washing places for clothes used for centuries by the pilgrims passing through and local people. They are now largely picturesque than functional, with frogs rather than people using the facilities. They would have been a meeting place for many, to interact and catch up while getting their washing done.

It was a steep but shorter walk today, so we arrived in the town of Pontevedra in time for lunch. Travelling light meant we had washing to do. We opted for the  local laundrette and the coffee shop next door while we waited for our clothes to wash. My life is usually busy juggling work, school runs, home and family. While away from home, something like doing the laundry seems a familiar but relaxing task. Not attempting to multitask has been good for me, so often I feel ‘busy’ but not always productive. Instead, I was finding time to focus. Although my legs ached, my head didn’t.

Pizza this evening. My Fitbit was telling me that I had already burnt off the calories 😊

Buen Camino
